I had seen posters all over Chicago for The Iron Stag King at The House Theater, and thought they were so cool I took pictures of them. Then, Saturday afternoon I stumbled into the Delicious Design League tent at Renegade Craft Fair, saw the same poster (along with lot of other fine art and gig posters). This was the first time I had taken pictures of an artists work on the street, than met that same artist later the same day.
The Delicious Design league consists of two Chicago artists, Jason Teegarden-Downs and Billy Baumann. They create fine art, as well as function as a design studio for some pretty high profile clients (ie Nike) but for my two cents their best work is with the local theaters (see the image from Rapunzel above as an example). They do some great music gig posters too.
Hard to characterize, they seem to utilize whatever they think the piece calls for. Bright poppy colors, animation characters, retro stylings or even abstract imagery, they use it all. Great stuff, make sure to check out their website and pick up some work.
